DUTIES

The Fire Prevention office of the Valley Falls Fire Department is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Fire Code Inspections
  • Fire Code Plan Reviews
  • Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspections for the Reselling of Homes
  • Public Life Safety Education
  • Other Fire Administrative Duties as Required by the Chief of Department

INSPECTION AND PLAN REVIEW FEES

Every request for complete plan review or a fire detection system/carbon monoxide system review by the Valley Falls Fire Department under the provisions of the RI Fire Laws & Rules shall be accompanied by the appropriate fee.

  • All residential smoke/carbon monoxide system resale inspection, fee of $30.
  • Applications for new residential construction of smoke/carbon monoxide detection systems, fee of $60 for plan review, rough, and final inspection.
  • Applications for additions to existing or remodeled residential smoke/carbon monoxide detection systems, fee of $30 for plan review, rough, and final inspection.

New buildings, additions, alterations, structures, etc. not covered by the above mentioned are subject to the following fee figures based upon cost of construction:

 

PLAN REVIEW FEES FOR COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF FIRE WARDENS 1/12/2000

 

New construction of commercial building or renovations of commercial/business property in the Valley Falls Fire District which requires plan approval, rough inspection for both construction and fire alarm system shall be assessed the following fees.

  • Building over $2000.00 but less than $500,000.00 | Fee $45.00 plus $4.00 per $1000.00 over $2000.00.
  • Building over $500,000.00 | Fee $2037.00 plus $3.00 per $1,000.00 over $500,000.00.

The figure used to determine value and fee due shall be that used as the value of the Town of Cumberland general building permit for the project. Payment based on estimated cost of construction will be required at the time of application. Any differences in the fees due to changes in construction cost estimates will be reconciled with the figures set by the Cumberland Building Official.
